Last weekend we traveled to Lincolnville, KS to document Sara and Randy’s wedding day. We started at Sara’s parents country home. The house was an older farmstead that had been in Sara’s family since it was built over 100 years ago. The beautiful two story had the tall skinny windows and doorways which made for really pretty backdrop as Sara got ready. She started with her hair and her bridesmaids hanging out and also getting their hair done in the dining area. Sara found her dress at David’s Bridal. She said that it was her 3rd one she tried on and knew it was the one for her. It was an ivory taffeta A-line with beaded shirred bodice with a chapel length train. It looked absolutely stunning on Sara and it fit her like a glove. Before the ceremony began we were able to grab some photos of Sara out and around the farm house by some of the out buildings and by her dad’s antique 1946 restored blue Chevrolet pickup. The ceremony began without a hitch despite the wind. The ceremony location that Sara and Randy chose was out of most of the wind because of trees that surrounded it. The ceremony was very peaceful with a stream that ran behind the tree bark arbor. The guests were seated on boards that laid across straw hay bales. At the end of each row Sara’s dad had welded together a metal rod to rail road spikes to hang a ball of maroon flowers from.

The bridesmaids all wore chocolate brown dresses that were different styles. The flowers were all fall-like colors using the dark reds and creams. Randy couldn’t help but cry with happy tears as he saw his beautiful bride walking down the path with her dad to give her away to her groom. As the ceremony ended and Randy and Sara walked back down the path, the DJ played the theme song to “Batman”, fitting with their new last name! Then guests lined up to greet Sara, Randy, wedding party and the families as they walked to their cars to head to the reception. Afterwards we took family and wedding party pictures, as well as jsut Sara and Randy. Then it was time to go to the reception. Sara’s dad drove them as they sat in the back of the ’46 Chevrolet truck, peaking out to 45 mph, through Lincolnville to the Community building.

The reception was decorated with wheat that Sara and her mom had picked for the center pieces and candles which made for an illuminating atmosphere. The wedding cake was in the shape of a stump of a tree with a heart and their names carved in the frosting! The groom’s cake? Yep- you guessed it- white cake with the Batman symbol on it. The reception was started with a photo montage of Sara and Randy growing up. Then the party rolled on into dinner, cake cutting, toasts, and the formal dances. Sara and Randy danced to “Lost in This Moment” by Big and Rich. It was a miracle that Jeff was able help out the DJ by playing the song from his IPhone with the DJ’s microphone held up to it. The rest of the evening was filled with people gathering and having a good time.

Sara and Randy, thank you for allowing us to be part of your special day. I, Tyff, felt in my element being on a farm! Reminded me of my growing up years living in the country in a 100+ year old house and then doing what I love, taking pictures, it was GREAT!!! You guys are such a sweet couple and we wish you many years of laughter and happiness. When you come to Valley Center to visit family please stop by and visit us, too.

Garrett & Lauren

Even though the day started off a little rocky with a major mix up by the hair salon, the day turned out to be all Lauren & Garrett had hoped and dreamed it would be. Since they’ve been friends for so many years and even dated back in high school, they were both confident that they’re meant to be together.

Lauren wore a beautiful strapless gown with lace bodice and Dupioni silk full skirt. There was a silk ribbon and bow at the waist but, the finishing touches were family heirlooms including a handkerchief and cross pendant attached to Lauren’s lucky pearls. Both the handkerchief and cross were her grandmother’s and had been worn by Lauren’s grandmother and mother at their weddings.

As the guys played video games and dressed at Lauren & Garrett’s new home, the girls got ready at the church, Eastminister Presbyterian Church. The girls wore black strapless dresses with thin hot pink ribbons tied in a bow at the waist to match Lauren’s dress. They carried stargazer lily and bright pink rose bouquets that were slightly smaller than Lauren’s. The men wore traditional black tuxes with hot pink ties, except for Garrett who wore a black vest and tie and Garrett’s nephew, Parker, the ring bearer, who wore a tux with tails and a hot pink tie.

Lauren’s mom did an outstanding job on the rest of the flowers at the church and the reception. As you entered the church, there were two tall vases on the guest book tables at each end of the foyer filled with stargazer lilies, roses and baby’s breath. The round tables held message note cards for guest to sign instead of the traditional guest book which Lauren plans to put in their wedding scrapbook. In the sanctuary, there were bright pink bows and lilies attached to each of the candle holders going down the main aisle, and on the three large candelabra’s at the front of the church.

As the church bells rang, the wedding started with Lauren’s friend, Evan, singing “I do”. As the couple lit the unity candle, Evan and Lauren’s sister, Lynn, sang another terrific song, “When I say I do”. After the wedding, the couple exited the church through the bubbles to the waiting trolley. Brett rode on the trolley with the couple and wedding party. On the way to the reception at Terradyne Country Club, they stopped at the Waterfront for a few pics by the lake.

The highlights at the reception were Lynn’s top 10 toast to the couple and the couple’s first dance. Lauren wrote a poem to Garrett, which Lauren’s brother, Paul, put to music and sang. We hope to get a copy to put on the blog for everyone to hear. It was so sweet and incredibly touching knowing Lauren had written it for Garrett. Lauren may have a future career as a songwriter if she gets tired of teaching fourth graders! We sure Garrett and Lauren wont mind us taking a minute to plug one of Garrett’s groomsmen’s, Andy’s, web page. Andy is a fellow photographer as well as a fireman, Garrett & Lauren have one of his landscape photos above their fireplace. To check out his fire and landscape pics go to www.andythomasphotos.com.

Lauren & Garrett, thank you to both you and your families for letting us be part of your special day. Our wish for you two is continue to “I will, I am, I can, I have & I do”!

This last weekend we had the privilege to document Sheena and Jonathan’s wedding at the “Cathedral of the Plains”, St. Fidelis in Victoria, KS just East of Hays, KS. The cathedral started construction November 1908 and ended in August of 1911. This massive Romanesque structure stands in the form of a cross and faces west with its 141 feet high majestic towers dominating the prairie landscape.

At 8:00 a.m. Sheena, her mother, mother-in-law and bridesmaids met at Impressions to have their hair done. While socializing they shared in some Mimosas and donuts that were provided by Sheena’s aunt. Afterwards the ladies met at Sheena’s parents to get dressed and put on make-up. The bridesmaid’s dresses were black strapless with a lilac sash that wrapped around the waist and looped in the back. Sheena’s dress was a satin cuffed bodice and full tulle skirt with embellished sparkling beads. She wore a long train veil with a beautiful tierra, matching necklace and a bracelet that matched her ring which she wore on her left wrist.

With the guidelines of the church it left them no choice but to see each other before the ceremony and to get all the pictures done before-hand. I believe they both were glad they did because it really relieved the stress and nervousness they both had. Sheena looked stunning as she walked up behind her groom, standing by one of the marble pillars to the side aisle. We spent about 30-45 minutes with just the two of them then rolled into family and wedding party photos.

The ceremony was absolutely gorgeous with all the architecture and atmosphere the cathedral put off. Even though there was no air-conditioning the ceremony still was very meaningful for Sheena, Jonathan, family and friends.

Following the ceremony, guests were handed bubbles as they lined up outside the front of the church to shower Sheena and Jonathan as they made their way to the limo. On the way to the reception we did grab a few shots on a near by bridge that was located on Fort Hays Campus.

The reception was held at the Fox Pavillion in Hays, KS. Originally opened in 1950, as the Fox Theater, and now is a premier entertainment destination in Western Kansas. The original 50′s style theater ambiance remains, and creates a fun atmosphere for the full food and bar services, outdoor patio, dance floor, and cigar lounge. Sheena and Jonathan were announced by C&C Energy DJ as they made it front and center stage to the head table. The theatre seats of course have all been taken out and replaced with tables and chairs. The chairs were all covered in black satin with a lilac sash around them and elegantly decorated with black napkins rolled up and stood straight up with candles as the center pieces. All the guests had a little black box with a ribbon around it with chocolates inside for a treat to enjoy during the evening. After dinner Sheena and Jonathan cut their cake, had toasts, their first dance, father/daughter and mother/son dances. Many other dances followed like the chicken dance, hokey pokey, cotton-eyed Joe and many more. The evening was filled with fun and a chance for Sheena and Jonathan to visit with their guests. They had a great time!

Thanks again to Sheena, Jonathan, your parents, siblings and friends for being so wonderful to work with. Thank you for a sandwich to get me by till dinner and for dinner as well. We look forward to seeing you all again in June as we document Shawn and Lindsay Billinger/Bengston wedding. You guys were all great and we had a great time sharing your
day with you.

Scott & Victoria

Our red wedding weekend ended with Scott & Victoria’s wedding at Central Community Church’s chapel. After Kirk & Christi’s beautiful red wedding on Friday night, we were surprised to find Scott & Victoria’s color was red as well. And even though they had the same color, they were both uniquely theirs and both lovely.

Victoria and her bridesmaids started the day getting their hair done at JC Penney’s and make-up done at the Clinique counter at Dillard’s. The ladies slipped into their dresses at the church. The bridesmaids wore red floor length gowns, red shoes and carried red rose and stargazer lily bouquets. Victoria’s gown was one of the most beautiful gowns we’ve ever had the privilege to photograph. It was ivory with champaign colored trim and a cathedral length detachable train. The train had cutouts with lace and sequin. When the train was removed, the gown had a small layered tulle train with sequin that bustled for the reception. Victoria looked so elegant, it was no wonder Scott couldn’t help but smile when he looked at his beautiful bride.

Instead of the traditional guestbook, the couple had a red satin covered signature mat with Chinese good luck wishes. During the wedding, a friend of Victoria’s played the violin as the couple lit the unity candle. On the alter on each side of the unity candle, were two candles in honor of Scott’s dad and Victoria’s brother.

The reception was at Tallgrass County Club. As the guests were finding their name tags which were assigned to specific Chinese placards placed on each table, we were able to get some terrific shots of the couple on the golf course. As soon as the couple entered the reception, they had their first dance, which was an elegant waltz. Scott and Victoria actually met at a dance and both love ballroom dancing. Victoria gets that from her parents who are both wonderful dancers, as were many of the wedding guests.

Scott and Victoria, thank you so much for letting us be part of your day. Our wish for the two of you is one we heard is a Chinese good luck wish used mostly at weddings, Double Happiness! Have a great time on your Honeymoon in California and China!

Kirk & Christi

Christi’s best friend and bridesmaid, Jana, is a stylist at Eric Fisher Salon (east location) and did Christi’s hair is an elaborate up-do that looked stunning. The amazing team at Eric Fisher did a fantastic job on the six bridesmaids (including Christi’s two sisters), Christi’s niece, Paige, the flower girl, and Christ’s mom. As the girls were getting their hair & make-up done, the guys were hanging out at one of the groomsmen’s (Mike’s) home, playing pool, darts, etc. and having a great time relaxing before they had to start getting ready.

Christi wore a stunning strapless gown from Reni’s bridal, with gathered full skirt and chapel length train. Her veil was simple but, cathedral length and extended past the train of her gown. She wore killer heels with a rhinestone beaded strap around the ankle that tied with a ribbon in the back. The final touch to her look was a pair of crystal chandelier earrings that added just the right amount of glam to go with her dress. She looked like a princess according to Paige, and I think everyone agreed. The bridesmaids wore strapless cranberry red dresses with matching shawls and carried smaller versions of Christi’s fall colored bouquets of calla lilies and roses created by the Flower Factory.

When Christi’s son, Tyler, finally got to see his mom in her beautiful gown, he was so enthralled with how beautiful she looked. He kept touching her dress, veil, holding her hand or just trying to be close to her. It was obvious how proud he was to have her for his mom. When Christi told him how much she loved him, he replied, “I love you more!”, her reply was the same as any mom’s would be, that she didn’t think that was possible. It was a very touching moment that we were honored to witness.

After the wedding, the guests waited on the front steps of St. Mary’s Cathedral for the couple to exit and cheered them on as they boarded the trolley. The wedding party joined the couple on the trolley and we followed them to Riverside Park for a few shots before heading to the Scottish Rite temple for the reception.

The reception site was beautifully decorated with tall vases of white calla lilies as centerpieces, except for the head table (placed in the center of the main hall) which was decorated with large topiaries of flowers matching the ladies bouquets. The wedding party and couple were introduced, entering down the grand staircase. Dinner by Corporate Caterers was delicious as always and served buffet style.

The dance started with a terrific band, called the Stars, from OKC, playing hits that kept everyone dancing. As good as the band was, the chocolate fountain was the biggest hit, at least with the kids.

Kirk & Christi, it was such an honor to be part of your day. Thank you for choosing us to document your day for you. We wish you many more joyous days together!
